Northern Air

Northern Air is rooted in the belief that music carries stories across time, culture, and geography. As a duo, we create original folk music that reflects the lived realities of Saskatchewan’s landscapes and people. Our songs draw from the vast skies, rivers, and plains of the prairies, while weaving in themes of resilience, belonging, and community. By combining Dara’s soaring, lyrical vocals with Shayne’s grounding instrumental work and storytelling, we create music that is both intimate and expansive — a reflection of the land we come from and the relationships that sustain us.

We see our artistic practice as a bridge between traditions and audiences. Northern Air honours the folk tradition of storytelling while embracing contemporary approaches to songwriting and performance. Our influences include prairie roots, cultural teachings, and folk balladry, all converging in a sound that is distinctly Saskatchewan yet resonant far beyond its borders. Through our work, we aim to connect listeners to place, history, and one another — carrying the voice of the Canadian prairies into wider conversations about art and humanity.
